How CenterGrid Virtual Studio Helped Bring Mocap Education to Latin America.
As virtual production technologies continue to evolve, access to industry-grade tools shouldn’t be reserved for studios in major hubs or schools with million-dollar labs.
That’s the thinking behind a bold new collaboration between CenterGrid Virtual Studio and Vicon Motion Systems — debuting this year at SIGGRAPH 2025 — aimed at dismantling long-standing barriers to high-end motion capture (mocap) training.
The pilot? A fully cloud-hosted GPU lab delivering Vicon’s Shogun software to aspiring creators across Latin America — with no local installs, no licensing roadblocks, and no need for high-end hardware.
Rethinking Access for the Next Generation
In regions where VFX talent is growing fast but infrastructure is lagging, traditional training models fall short. Expensive local setups, hardware compatibility issues, and software license constraints make it nearly impossible to offer consistent, hands-on mocap education.
That’s where CenterGrid Virtual Studio stepped in.
Working with Vicon engineer and educator Dr. Carlos Vilchis, our team provided the cloud environment and GPU horsepower to support a new kind of classroom — one that exists entirely online, yet delivers the full power of studio-grade mocap tools.
How It Worked: A Cloud-First Training Lab
At the heart of the project was a custom-designed, cloud GPU lab built using CenterGrid Virtual Studio, equipped with:
- High-performance Windows 11 desktops
- AMD EPYC processors + NVIDIA RTX A6000 GPUs
- Pre-installed Vicon Shogun LIVE and POST software
- Secure, low-latency remote access via Parsec
Students and instructors in Latin America could log in from local desktops and instantly access the full Vicon mocap pipeline — from capture to post — all hosted in the cloud.

This architecture ensured stable performance and real-time responsiveness — without the cost or delay of physical deployment. From a learning perspective, it was just like being in the lab. From a logistics perspective, it was a game-changer.
What This Means for Education, Globally
This pilot isn’t just about one region — it’s a model for how cloud infrastructure can unlock access to virtual production careers worldwide.
With CenterGrid Virtual Studio, institutions can now:
- Deploy fully equipped training labs without physical space or hardware
- Offer real-time VFX and mocap courses using leading software
- Expand globally, without compromising quality or control
- Respond to evolving student needs with scalable cloud solutions
It’s not just about streaming desktops. It’s about removing the distance between talent and opportunity — whether that’s in São Paulo, Nairobi, or New York.
